Buckle Up Beautiful People! This is gonna be a Crazy Ride!!

First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH for being here, for reading my books, for everything YOU do that makes being a writer one of the greatest careers in the world!

This is my first ever blog post and I thought long and hard about what I should write about. Then it came to me...answer the question I am asked most often! So here it is, the question I am asked more than any other...drum roll please...why dragons?My initial response is, why not dragons? Then I realize that it may sound like I’m being a smart ass. Me? A smart ass? Impossible you say? HA! It is very possible actually and an everyday occurrence but I digress. So back to the topic at hand, how or why did I decide to write about dragons?

Honestly, it just came to me. I was at a release party for the incredibly talented JD Nelson and she had a game where she gave us six words and asked for a three sentence paragraph. One of the words was dragons. I wrote the paragraph, won some super cool books but was left thinking about these incredible mythological creatures. By all accounts they are majestic, loyal, fierce and unwavering in their protection of all they hold dear.

Now I suppose I should have told you that from the age of four I have devoured pretty much any book that I found interesting but until about thirteen years ago, I hadn’t experienced the Paranormal genre at all. Actually, I primarily read mystery, suspense and thrillers not even contemporary romance. That all changed the day I was introduced to Laurell K Hamilton’s Anita Blake Series by a dear friend. I WAS HOOKED! It was everything I had been missing but never really knew I was missing…ya know what I mean? I mean seriously this book had it all…action, thrills, sexy as hell men, strong women and something I had never before experienced…hot, steamy romance. For that point forward I began to read everything Paranormal I could get my hands, heavy on the romance! I was introduced to worlds I had never known possible by some of the most amazing authors ever.

Okay, now back to what I was supposed to be talking about…why dragons? Well, maybe you’ve already figured this out but sometimes it takes a knock on the head with a big stick for me to see what is right in front of me and that ‘epiphany’ came when I lost my job. Suddenly, I had all this time on my hands and all the stories that had lain dormant in my brain were now alive. The paragraph I had written at that release party almost a month prior kept growing and nagging at me, those characters asking for their stories to be told. My love of the Paranormal Romance kept growing until one day I sat down and started writing. Strong, sexy, Alpha men that could shift into dragons and defend their very existence flowed onto the paper. The independent, sassy, perfect in their own unique way women that would bring light to their souls became a reality and the Dragon Guard was born! That was only ten months ago! The series in growing and I spend at least part of everyday listening the voices of the men of the MacLendon Force and their allies in my head telling me their stories.

YES! It is true! I believe to be a writer you have to be at least partially schizophrenic. The voices are in there demanding to make their presences known and I am given little choice except to write it all down. It seems as though once I opened the door, there is not shutting it and to be honest…I wouldn’t have it any other way. Now, you know that I write about dragon shifters because I have to and more importantly because I simply adore them!

So…WE DID IT! Together, we survived my first ever blog post! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! If there is anything you would specifically like to know, holler at me!
